TRUMPETS FROM THE SKY

apocalyptic sky trumpet 2025

Have you heard the Apocalyptic Sky Trumpets?

These mysterious sounds echo through the streets of Anchorage on cold winter nights. But what are they? No one has a definite answer, but many theories on their origin exist. Some suggest they are the product of snowplows clearing our roads or mechanical groans from machinery at Ted Stevens Airport, while others insist the noises are the mating calls of whales in the Cook Inlet. Others say the noises are a natural phenomenon caused by frigid winds reverberating through the icy peaks of the Chugach Mountains above the city. We like to think they are the sinister songs of wayward spirits.

Inspired by these eerie refrains, we brew Apocalyptic Sky Trumpet barleywine. This whiskey barrel-aged high-ABV beer has garnered serious acclaim over the years, taking home a gold medal at the 2023 Alaska Beer and Barleywine Festival and a bronze medal at the 2025 Alaska Beer and Barleywine Festival. We’re excited to announce that the 2025 version of this brew will be available at our Downtown Anchorage Pub on Monday, April 7th when we open.

Like previous Sky Trumpet releases, this version features the familiar notes of oak spice, dried fruit, caramel, and toffee that we love in our barleywines, but it also features extremely unique notes of maple, Amaretto, and even a kiss of cherry fruitiness. These elements combine in a hauntingly complex rhapsody of flavors that might be our favorite Sky Trumpet release yet.

This year’s release is extra special as a departure from being 100% bourbon barrel-aged like previous vintages: it is a blend of 2/3 bourbon barrel-aged and 1/3 American rye whiskey barrel-aged Sky Trumpet, which results in unique hints of rye spice peeking through in the final product.

This is a low-volume release of 8oz cans, which we feel are the perfect size to contain this enormous 15% ABV brew. We want to share this release with as many people as possible, so we are instituting a six-can per-person, per-visit limit on them. Cans are $13 each. We hope to see you on Monday. You won’t want to miss this one.
